Wandering through spatial situations -actions in the area of Gazohori.
The project is based on the involvement of people that come together, and then to their involvement regarding the place and the metropolitan conditions, as well as their penetration in them.
The issue which is going to be examined–processed has to do with “the transformation of the ground” of the site. Everyone has to process a project in the area through investigation in situ. The final result is an in situ PLAN.
These PLANS that concern issues and locations of the ground became a wandering around the area, and a reading-suggestion regarding the area. Taking into account that Gazohori and the broader region, is a territorial situation that characterized by complexity, uncertainty and excellent exploitation, and that the area is designated as a critical situation under transformation, which is “punched” into the metropolitan reality of Athens.
The Network suggested to the participants the on-the-spot territorial design through the technique of territorial observation and the experience derived from the place and the metropolitan treaty as well as the socioeconomic phenomena. Meaning the penetration in the present of this urban situation in order to see the past and affect the future. Our goal was to find the methodology and the specialized conceptual tools on how architecture and art can intervene actively in the urban situation and the transformation of the ground in order to implement a study and design experience.
During the three years that the Network is present in the area, incredible changes have occurred, as three cafes have been closed down, many residents have been displaced, the habitation because of the night clubs is impossible. The region experiences the brutal situation of different realities and transformations. How could this be implemented taking into account the residents, so that the new uses can coexist with the old ones, so that they can participate in the design and not be forced to move away? What happens with the public and the private space, what other areas are highlighted in the area?
What can be a PLAN today? How can the architect, artist perceive it? What changes through a common processing? What can he express? How can he affect the present and the future of the city’s ground?
How can he reveal the hidden dynamics of the location? How can he explore time?
Seeking new forms of participation in the planning through the experiences of situationists of Land Art, of the radical architects of the 70s’ but also through the experiences of public art, referring to theoreticals, connecting policy with architecture and art, we continue our experience through that location and seek to turn it into a methodological research that may influence reality.
